Mental health charities re-launch Tea & Talk

Local mental health charities Hull and East Yorkshire Mind and North East Lincolnshire Mind are relaunching their ‘Tea & Talk’ campaign – running throughout Mental Health Awareness week during 9-15 May 2022.

Taking time out from our busy lives to have a bit of a natter is always a good idea. It’s even better when there’s tea and cake involved! The idea behind the fundraising campaign is simple – have a cuppa, enjoy a natter and raise money for better mental health.

Hull and East Yorkshire Mind and North East Lincolnshire Mind are encouraging people to organise bake sales, afternoon teas or whatever they choose in order to raise money and talk about mental health during this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week.

Mental Health Awareness Week is an annual event when there is an opportunity for the whole of the UK to focus on achieving good mental health. The Mental Health Foundation started the event 21 years ago and the theme this year is loneliness. The charities hope to have events covering the whole of East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire.

Marie-Louise Robinson, Community Fundraiser at Hull and East Yorkshire Mind, said:

“Tea and Talk is a fun way to spend time with friends, family, or work colleagues, and have a cuppa and a chat about all things mental health. By taking part, you’ll be raising awareness of mental health, and perhaps also raising some much-needed funds for our charity.

“If you would like to hold a Tea and Talk event, we have lots of resources to support you; such as a cake quiz, mini bunting, cake flags and much more. Get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help.”

Leah England-Gray, Community Fundraiser at North East Lincolnshire Mind, said:

“We want to encourage lots of people to get involved by hosting a Tea and Talk event. Hosting an event will help us to challenge the stigma around mental health, and to raise vital funds so that we can continue to support more people living in our area.

“Both organisations are local mental health charities, which means we rely on local donations to carry out our work. All the money raised from Tea and Talk will go to helping us support people with their mental health in the local area.
