Play about the Bronte sisters working in a hair salon to hit Hull this March

Modern day versions of the Bronte sisters work as hairdressers whilst pursuing their creative dreams in Jane Hair: The Brontes Restyled at Hull Truck Theatre this spring.

This lively interpretation of three Yorkshire literary superstars aims to introduce new audiences to the sisters and their work, writer Kat Rose Martin from Bradford explains:

Jane Hair is a chance to get to know the sisters as individuals, even if you’ve never read their books you can still be inspired by their story.”

In the play Emily is a slam poet, Anne a political blogger, while oldest sister Charlotte has just sold a script to Netflix; action unfolds late at night in the salon as the sisters clash over media interest in their work.

Growing up in Bronte Country, co-writer Kirsty Smith says she was “surrounded by the sisters’ faces on tea towels and postcards, but it’s easy to forget how much determination, hard work and energy was required to earn their place in the literary world.’‘

That creative drive is replicated in the team behind the production. Producer Keeley Lane from Doncaster will also play Charlotte on stage.

“We are really excited to have assembled a majority female creative team on Jane Hair and feel that it is very fitting with the piece. It was important to us that we were able to represent brilliant Yorkshire women with a brilliant team from Yorkshire.”

Sheffield born Director Chantell Walker promises a fun night out for die hard Bronte fans and those who don’t know their Wuthering Heights from their Wildfell Hall.

Jane Hair runs from Friday 11 to Saturday 12 March at Hull Truck Theatre.
