A Beal Homes site manager has been hailed as one of the best in the business after claiming a prestigious housebuilding industry award.
Phil Evenden has been Site Manager at Beal’s West Hill II development in Kirk Ella, East Yorkshire, since construction began in early 2021.
Phil is overseeing the development of 141 luxury three, four and five-bedroom homes in a sought-after location on the outskirts of Hull, with a clear focus on construction quality, consistency and safety.
Phil’s leadership of the construction team at West Hill II has now been recognised by industry peers, with a Quality Award in the National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job Awards.
Running for 43 years, the awards are the benchmark for exceptional site managers across the UK.
Phil said: “The Pride in the Job Awards were a key focus of our Construction Director Andy Devine when he joined Beal last year and they have been promoted to all of the site managers within the business.
“We all share a commitment to providing our customers with homes of exceptional quality and ensuring that quality is consistent across the entire development. It’s great to see that recognised with this award.
“For me personally, being a site manager is about the passion and the energy you bring to the role. If you don’t have that passion in what you do, then how is your team going to buy into your vision and ideas?
“As Site Manager, it’s also important to me that I’m visible to the team. You can’t do the job properly from an office and problem solving is something I’ve always thrived on.”
Phil joined Beal Homes in 2015 and, prior to becoming Site Manager at West Hill II, he held the same position leading construction of the earlier and neighbouring West Hill development.
Judging for the Pride in the Job Quality Awards is rigorous, with each site manager being assessed across six key areas: consistency; attention to detail; leadership; interpretation of drawings and specifications; technical expertise; and health and safety.
NHBC CEO Steve Wood said: “This accolade recognises the best site managers across the UK and celebrates how much Phil has inspired his team by going the extra mile to deliver homes of the highest quality.
“It is important we recognise the vital role site managers play in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites and to exacting construction quality standards.”
Phil and fellow Quality Award winners will now go on to compete for Seal of Excellence and Regional Awards in the autumn, with the national Supreme Award winners revealed in January 2024.
