A Charity Footgolf Day has scored a hole-in-one at its third ever event, raising more than the previous two years’ fundraising days combined.
The 360 Grass Roots Foundation and Hull & East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club, who teamed up to host the event, raised £3,466 in profit this year. Around 150 people took part, with 31 teams entering, more than ever before. For the first time, they also invited hole sponsors. It’s proved a winning formula, with the record amount being split equally between both causes.
The 360 Grass Roots Foundation supports under privileged and disadvantaged children in the HU1 – HU9 postcode areas of Hull to access grassroots sports, while the Hull & East Yorkshire PFC, also known as the Electric Eels, aims to give disabled people of all ages and genders the chance to play powerchair football at a competitive or recreational level.
Sophie Holmes, Chair of the 360 Grass Roots Foundation, said: “This is a fantastic result and we want to thank all the individuals, businesses and families who got involved, those who played and those who sponsored holes. Their generosity means we will be able to open up another grant window this summer to help even more young people struggling with the cost of sports subscriptions, kit or travel to either continue playing grassroots sport or to start playing if the cost has, up to now, been prohibitive.
“We have been inundated with requests for help from coaches, parents and carers for help during the last tranche of applications so these additional funds will certainly be put to good use in our local community.”
Kai Gill, Marketing and Communications Officer for the Hull & East Yorkshire PFC, said: “The footgolf event this year was a great success. To see so many teams enter and to have hole sponsors – the support from everyone for both charities was just incredible. I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who did enter, sponsored a hole, donated a raffle prize, helped on the day and in the planning of this event. Without you, we wouldn’t have raised the amount that we did.
“Small charities like ourselves and the 360 Foundation rely on fundraising events like this to help raise funds and to see how well received it was is brilliant. It was also brilliant to see everyone, including some familiar faces who now pencil in the footgolf event. And it was great to see everyone having fun. That’s the key part! Thank you once again. We can’t wait for next years’ event.”
Plans for next year’s footgolf charity day, on Friday 9th May 2025, are already underway. Organisers are hoping to attract an event sponsor this time around to cover a lot of the costs associated with hosting the event, so that even more profit can go directly to the charities.
