Hull Truck Theatre are encouraging audiences to visit the theatre via rail to enjoy their festive production of Pinocchio, sponsored by Hull Trains, with a special incentive.
On stage from 24 November until 31 December 2023, audiences who are able to show a valid rail ticket for their journey at the point of purchase will receive an ice-cream for just £1.
This green travel incentive is inspired by the theatre’s partnership with Hull Trains as both organisations are passionate advocates for making change to benefit the environment. Hull Trains have supported the theatre’s festive production for the last three consecutive years and this initiative builds on this partnership with a subject that is very important to both organisations. Customers who travel to the theatre on any of the rail providers that service the city will be eligible for the discount, including Hull Trains, Northern Trains, TransPennine Express and LNER.
Janthi Mills-Ward, Executive Director at Hull Truck Theatre, said:
“We hope this new incentive encourages audiences from slightly further afield – into the East Riding and beyond – to travel into Hull to visit us during the Christmas period, and to do it in a more sustainable way.
“By offering an incentive to travel to the theatre via train, we’re hoping that this makes people reconsider their travel choices. Most families love to enjoy an ice cream at the interval, so we hope this £1 ice cream offer is something which is well received. We have a variety of flavours available, including tasty vegan options and each individual tub comes with a biodegradable wooden spoon with a card lid and is presented in 100% recyclable packaging.
“The green agenda is something that is extremely important to Hull Truck Theatre as an organisation, and I know these values are shared with our sponsors, Hull Trains.
“We hope that whilst audiences are in the city that they also get to enjoy the wider offer – from Christmas shopping, to festive experiences and fantastic places to eat and drink!”
In a recent Act Green Survey (conducted with research partner Indigo Ltd), 63% of Hull Truck Theatre audiences were keen to learn more about sustainable travel options, demonstrating that there is an appetite for information and incentives in this area.
