Stagecoach East Midlands is introducing a series of improvements to its Hull bus network from Sunday 6 September, delivering new routes, better city centre connections and later evening buses for customers across the city on a Sunday.
One of the significant changes is the introduction of Service 1A, which will provide direct links between Boothferry Estate, Hull city centre, and the English Street industrial area, including Smith and Nephew. Designed to support local employment and shift patterns, the new service will operate Monday to Saturday with journeys during the morning peak and afternoon peaks, plus a late evening journey for workers on late shifts.
Customers travelling to Hull’s Old Town and Humber Street area will also benefit from new direct bus links for the first time. Service 6 will be extended from Queen Dock Avenue via Alfred Gelder Street, Lowgate, High Street and Humber Street before returning to Hull Interchange via the new Mytongate junction. Service 5 will operate the same route after 6pm Monday to Saturday and throughout Sundays. Together, the services will bring Humber Street and the Marina onto Hull’s main bus network all day, every day of the week, making it easier to access one of the city’s most popular leisure, cultural and visitor destinations.
Residents in Greatfield and Preston Road will see major benefits from a redesigned Service 16, which will no longer operate via the Old Town and Victoria Dock. Instead, it will provide a brand-new direct route every 30 minutes between Hull Interchange Preston Road and Greatfield via Drypool Bridge, Ellis Street, Newbridge Road, and Southcoates Lane.
The changes will also boost services for Annandale Road and Wingfield Road. Together, Services 14 and 16 will provide up to four buses an hour during the daytime, giving customers more choice and shorter waits when travelling to and from the city centre.
The Park and Ride Service 20 will also be revised, creating more direct links between Priory Park and key city centre destinations. The service will operate via St Stephen’s, Prospect Street, Albion Street, Bond Street, Queens Dock Avenue and Carr Lane, improving access to St Stephen’s Shopping Centre, the Hull and East Riding Community Diagnostic Centre, Princes Quay and the wider city centre. As part of the changes, the Park and Ride will no longer serve the Old Town or The Deep.
Across the wider network, customers will benefit from improved timetable coordination on routes serving Beverley Road, Holderness Road and Orchard Park. Changes to Services 3, 7, 7C, 8, 8C, 11, 111, 12, 12A, 13 and 15 will help create a more evenly spaced service, reducing waiting times and providing customers with greater flexibility when travelling.
The improvements also include enhanced Sunday evening services across much of the Hull network, with later journeys being introduced on Services 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 12A, 13 and 14. Buses will operate throughout the evening, with services running later until around 11.30pm, making it easier for customers to enjoy Sunday evenings out, work later shifts or travel home without worrying about missing the last bus.
