Thousands cross the finish line at the Hull Running Festival

The streets of Hull came alive as thousands of fun-runners, fundraisers and club runners of all ages and abilities crossed the finish line at the Hull Running Festival, which featured the Hull Half Marathon and Hull 10K.

Some came for a personal challenge, a few hoped to win and others simply aimed to get around the course, but all helped make sure the Hull Running Festival was a brilliant success, with thousands of pounds raised for local and national charities.

The day also included the MKM Hull Half Marathon Team Challenge and MKM Hull 10K Corporate Challenge, which saw teams of colleagues and friends battling it out to be crowned Corporate Challenge and Team Challenge Champions. Results will be announced in due course.

Cottingham Road was the starting point for both routes. The course took the field out of the city centre, along Cottingham Road, Hull Road, Ingelmere Lane, along Crankbrook Avenue, down Endike Lane and along 21st Avenue. Runners then headed down Greenwood Avenue before returning back to Cranbrook Avenue and into Newland Avenue, Queens Road, then onto Goddard Avenue before returning back to Cottingham Road for the big finish.

The Hull 10K took runners on the same route as the half marathon; however shortly after 8K on Cranbrook Avenue, runners turned back to Cottingham Road to the finish line.

Large crowds created a special atmosphere as they cheered the runners to the finish line.

First across the finish line for the Hull Half Marathon was Jonathan Walton in a time of 01:12:19. Lewis Suddaby took second place in 01:13:30 with Danny Brunton in third place in 01:18:21.

Lindsay Skinner was the first woman across the finish line for the Hull Half Marathon in 01:20:32 followed by Venika Moverley who clocked 01:23:47 for second spot and Tamsin Boynton who took third place in 01:24:25.

For the 10K, first across the finish line was John Beattie in a time of 00:31:23. Jonathon Harding took second place in 00:32:52 with James Wootton in third place in 00:33:08.

Elzbieta Lisowska was the first woman across the finish line for the Hull 10K in 00:39:33 followed by Lois England who clocked 00:43:20 for second spot and Helena Lamplough who took third place in 00:44:10.

Tristan Batley-Kyle, Operations Director at Run For All, said: “It was fantastic to be back in the city for the first time since 2019 for the Hull Running Festival and to see thousands of runners come out to take part.

“The sun was shining and the enthusiasm and support from everyone involved, from the participants themselves to the many spectators, sponsors, partners and volunteers, all ensured the day was a fantastic success.

“It was brilliant to see so many participants cross the finish line and we already can’t wait for next year’s Hull Running Festival.”

Participants raised thousands of pounds for charity by taking part in the event, including for the Hull Running Festival’s partner charities – Candlelighters, Children’s Air Ambulance, Hull & East Riding Breast Friends, Hull Homeless Community Project, Mind Hull & East Yorkshire, Special Stars Foundation, Macmillan Cancer Support and Dove House Hospice.
