Two Hull women take on the London Marathon to support families of premature babies

Two inspiring women from Hull, Caroline Latus and Laura Hand, are set to tackle the 2025 London Marathon in support of Bliss, a charity dedicated to helping families of premature and sick babies.

For Caroline, this cause is deeply personal. In 2017, her son Zach was born prematurely at just 32 weeks, weighing only 2lbs. He spent six weeks in neonatal care, while Caroline recovered from preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome in intensive care. Separated from her newborn for 36 hours, she recalls the overwhelming emotions of finally meeting her tiny but strong baby boy.

During this challenging time, Bliss provided invaluable support — from essential information and support groups to guidance on navigating early maternity leave while caring for a premature baby. Now, with Zach thriving at seven years old, Caroline is determined to give back.

Caroline and Laura have been running together since early 2024. They completed the Humber Bridge Half Marathon in September and most recently took on the challenge again on 23rd March. Now, they’re preparing for their biggest challenge yet — the London Marathon. As a team, they will continue to support and motivate each other every step of the way to raise vital funds for Bliss Charity.

Giving back runs in the family — back in 2018, Caroline’s husband, Will, and brother-in-law took on Ironman 70.3 to raise funds for Hull’s NICU Children’s Ward, successfully raising £6,869. Now, it’s Caroline’s turn to give something back to a charity that was there during her own difficult time.

The pair are grateful for their corporate sponsors: Latus Group, Burst Creatives and TC60 Gym, where both Caroline and Laura met and their fitness journey began.

Together, they have set an ambitious goal to raise £5,000. The funds will help Bliss continue providing emotional support groups, financial assistance, and guidance to families navigating neonatal care.

“We know how crucial this support is, and we want to ensure more families get the help they need during such a challenging time,” said Caroline. “Every donation makes a difference, and we are incredibly grateful for any support we receive.”
