‘Under Milk Wood’ announced as East Riding Theatre’s spring production

East Riding Theatre is thrilled to announce that its spring production will be Under Milk Wood, written by Dylan Thomas and directed by Richard Avery. This true to life, hilarious play is sure to have you yo-yoing between tears of laughter and tears of emotion.

Set in the fictional Welsh village of Llareggub’ (best read backwards!) across the period of a single spring day, audiences will be immersed in the intimacies and humour of village life.

ERT’s Artistic Director, Richard Avery, and creative mind behind A Dickens of a Christmas, Fallen Leaves, The Catch, said: “I couldn’t ask for a bolder or better band of four actors to rise to the challenge of playing over 60 characters in quick succession”.

ERT can’t wait for audiences to join them and share the dreams and experiences of Llareggub’s inhabitants:

Mrs. Ogmore-Pritchard who relentlessly nags not one but two dead husbands!

The retired sea captain yearning for lost love…

The landlady living in terror of her guests…

The burning passion of the seductive Rosie Probert…

For Richard and the East Riding Theatre team, community is the most important aspect of ERT’s success since opening in 2014. Richard tells us ‘Under Milk Wood’ is rightly considered as Thomas’ most “enduring work”, because it recognises the goodness that people are capable of and the warmth of friendship, family and community that can still bind us together.

The show from Thursday 4 – Sunday 21 May (includes matinees and weekend performances)
