Throughout the months of November and December 2023, the sustainable building products manufacturer committed to making a difference for the local charity. For every sale of a Timloc plastic loft door during this period, a donation was made to benefit the vital work of the Samaritans in Hull and an astounding total of £2,500 has been raised for the charity.

Samaritans, a distinguished charity organisation, is dedicated to providing essential support to individuals in emotional distress and tirelessly working to prevent suicide. The profound impact of the pandemic on people’s lives, exacerbating stress, anxiety and mental health struggles, underscored the critical need for Hull Samaritans’ support.

Facing unprecedented challenges, the dedicated Samaritans team in Hull overcame obstacles during the crisis, ensuring much-needed assistance was provided. Today, their commitment doesn’t waver as they continue their essential work in the community.

Duncan, Director at Hull Samaritans, said: “One of the biggest challenges the branch faces is finding more volunteers and we are continuously recruiting, training and mentoring some incredible individuals. Samaritans have to take calls over 24 hours of the day and this is a big commitment in people’s busy lives.”

Crucial to the Samaritans’ ability to provide the best possible service is their comprehensive training and mentoring programmes. These initiatives equip volunteers with the necessary tools to offer attentive and compassionate support to callers in need.

For 2024, the Hull branch aims to increase the number of volunteers and create more shifts. This means the charity will be able to take more calls and help those in need in the local area.

Duncan continued: “We cannot thank you enough for your generosity. This is a major donation for us and will really help us in the running of the branch. We are totally self-funded and run by volunteers, so it will give us more time to do the thing that we are meant to do – listen to our callers. Currently, we are finding the need for our service is growing with the cost of living crisis and general uncertainty, so your kind support is helping us address the difficulties our callers are facing.”

Kirsty Harrop, Marketing Manager at Timloc Building Products, shared her reflections after meeting with Duncan and fellow volunteers at Hull Samaritans:

“Connecting with the dedicated individuals at Hull Samaritans was a privilege, it highlighted the vast efforts required to provide vital mental health and suicide prevention support in the Hull community. Through all of the current adversity, their commitment to expanding their volunteer base to further help those in need is genuinely inspiring and the entire team at Timloc Building Products is honoured to be able to support this cause.”
