Construction firm donates thousands to East Riding community projects

A Hull-based construction firm has invested over £28,000 into community projects across Hull and the East Riding, delivering a trio of schemes designed to enhance local facilities and support grassroots organisations.

Hobson & Porter has completed the works through its ongoing role on the YORbuild3Medium Works Framework, providing the funding support via the YOR4Good initiative.

Among the completed schemes is the refurbishment and redecoration of Beverley Memorial Hall, a longstanding community arts venue run by a board of trustees. Originally opened in 1959 and converted from a redundant church building, the hall hosts a wide variety of activities, including theatre, dance, weddings and community groups.

Hobson & Porter carried out improvements valued at almost £9,000 enhancing internal spaces and upgrading facilities to better support performances, events and day-to-day community use. The works also contribute to the preservation and continued use of the historic building.

A second project has delivered significant benefits for grassroots sport, with upgraded floodlighting installed at Holderness Vikings Rugby League Club. The £9,848 scheme replaced outdated, high-energy halogen lighting with modern LED systems, improving evening visibility whilst reducing energy consumption and operating costs.

The volunteer-run club, which supports more than 200 children and over 20 coaches, now benefits from a safer and more effective training environment during winter months. The project also included lighting design, installation of new luminaires and testing to ensure compliance with required standards.

The third scheme saw Hobson & Porter undertake £10,000 worth of essential repairs and decorating work at Woodmansey Church, near Beverley. The project comprised essential structural works and alterations undertaken in late 2025, which ensured the church could safely remain open for Christmas services. The works were delivered on a fast-track programme to meet this critical deadline.

Joe Booth, pre-construction and business development director at Hobson & Porter, said: “As part of the projects we deliver through our YORbuild framework contracts, we can give back to local communities and deliver meaningful improvements through YOR4Good. From heritage buildings to grassroots sport, we are proud to support these community initiatives that make a tangible difference and we’re already planning several future projects in the coming months.”

Phil Henderson, Chair of the YOR4Good Fund, said: “We are delighted to see the positive outcomes these three projects have delivered. Each scheme demonstrates exactly what the YOR4Good Fund is all about – supporting local facilities, strengthening community organisations and creating improvements that people will continue to benefit from for many years to come as a result of the collaboration between the local authority, YORhub and Hobson & Porter.”
