Fitmums & Friends opening new club in Brough

Brough Fitmums & Friends will begin regular run sessions at 6:45pm on Tuesday 17 January from Brough Fire Station. The friendly and supportive club will welcome men and women of all abilities.

The club will offer run distances of 1 to 6 miles at its weekly sessions, with runners choosing the distance that feels right for them and running at their own pace. The club can support both more regular runners and those who are new or returning to running. In the future, the club plans to add a fitness walking group.

Every Fitmums & Friends run is supported by a trained volunteer leader who helps all members achieve their fitness goals, keeps the group together and makes sure no one is ever left behind.

Chief Officer and founder of Fitmums & Friends, Sam Barlow BEM, explains: “At Fitmums & Friends, we are passionate about supporting everyone to become more active. So when we run, we use a simple support system known as ‘shepherding’ which enables people of all abilities to exercise together – it supports those who need to go at a steadier pace and still provides a challenge for those who are more capable. As a result, everyone is fit enough for our sessions.”

Sam adds: “If you’re thinking about being more active, then do come along and give our clubs a try. You don’t have to be fit, nor do you have to be a mum – the ‘& Friends’ is just as important! Everyone really does fit at Fitmums & Friends!”

Fitmums & Friends is open to men and women aged 16+. People who are new to the club can attend their first three sessions for free to find out what Fitmums & Friends is all about before joining. Membership, which allows members to attend any session at any club, costs £36 per year. (If the membership cost is a barrier to anyone, the club may be able to help through its Mike Barlow Memorial Fund.) Fitmums & Friends also has ways to help anyone who is anxious about coming along to a club session for the first time – just get in touch with the club.
