Hull and East Yorkshire powerchair football club receives charitable donation

Hull and East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club – also known as the Electric Eels – has received a donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation after being nominated by colleagues from the Hull branch.

Hull and East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club is the region’s first and only powerchair football club. Formerly known as East Riding Electric Eels, the club was formed in 2012 following two successful taster sessions. Since then, the club has grown significantly. The club has a wide range of players who play at various levels from the National League to Regional League to those who just come for social activity. Most members are people that cannot physically play sports like wheelchair basketball and struggle to find a team sport they can take part in independently.

Hull and East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club received the £750 donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, to help with increasing operational costs, after being nominated by Rachael Porter, Customer Consultant at Yorkshire Building Society in Hull. Rachael said: “I am extremely proud we have been able to support Hull and East Yorkshire Powerchair Football Club with a donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation. The work that they are doing to support their players and enhance their potential is utterly amazing.”

Kai Gill, Marketing and Communications officer for the club, said: “We are thankful for the donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation that will help us continue to provide our services. This funding will enable us to purchase new footballs and support our sports hall hire costs that we face. As a small charity, we have to rely on donations or grants to help us achieve our charitable aim and objectives.”

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme where members donate the pennies from the interest on their accounts just once a year to help smaller charities around the UK.

Last year the foundation donated over £283,000 to local causes and charities nominated by members and colleagues from around the UK.
