The popular open access operator Hull Trains has celebrated Yorkshire Day by enabling 100 volunteers to travel in comfort to London from Hull for an exciting East Yorkshire takeover.
The volunteers handed out white roses, postcards and special Hull Trains branded chip spice. The Hull made delicacy is hugely popular across the world, having originated in the city in the 1970s.
They received a warm reception from locals at iconic locations across the capital, including Camden and Regent’s Park.
The takeover was organised by Hull Trains, in partnership with Visit Hull and East Yorkshire (VHEY) and HEY Volunteering.
The community focussed business also arranged for all passengers on the 08:23 service to London King’s Cross to receive complimentary Yorkshire Parkin biscuits.
Martijn Gilbert, Managing Director of Hull Trains, said: “As a company that’s proudly based in Yorkshire and transports record numbers of people to and from our great region day in, day out, we’re immensely proud to have showcased our support for Yorkshire Day and worked with local partners to take this year to even greater heights along our route including Beverley, Hull, Selby, Doncaster and London.
“We’re particularly proud to have celebrated all that’s great about our part of the world and the many great things to do in and around our home city of Hull, a destination of rich maritime heritage and also the home of Chip Spice. We’re committed to showcasing Hull and East Yorkshire by working with Visit Hull and East Yorkshire to ultimately encourage more people to travel there the best way possible – on Hull Trains!”
Hull City Councillor Rob Pritchard is the portfolio holder for Leisure and Culture at the council. He was one of the volunteers who made the journey. He said: “We know how special our region is, but not everyone knows about what Hull and East Yorkshire has to offer.
“It was a great opportunity to spread the word about East Yorkshire to the people of London and hopefully, will form part of making Hull a world class visitor destination. I hope that we inspired some people to pay us a visit.”
