I swear it’s Robert Aramayo in that phone box!

Rising Hull star Robert Aramayo is the latest KCOM Hometown Hero to unveil a classic cream phone box named in his honour.

The acclaimed actor visited his dedicated K6 kiosk on Holderness Road, east Hull, this week and, while there, stepped inside to take a phone call from his dad, Mike, who was stood outside.

Robert, who recently won a BAFTA award for his performance in the British film ‘I Swear’, said: “It’s great isn’t it? I grew up around here and I remember walking down this street to get my bus to school – and now there’s a phone box with a picture of me on the corner. It’s mad really isn’t it!

“I’m really lucky to be from Hull and really proud of the city. It’s such a beautiful place to be from and the people here are so down to earth and supportive. So thank you to everyone who nominated me.”

Robert’s dad Mike added: “I’m so, so proud of him. To be voted for by the people of Hull first for the BAFTA Rising Star Award and now for this is amazing. I’m saving the number to my phone, maybe he could use it as his office when he’s back in town!”

Robert was chosen as one of KCOM’s nine Hometown Heroes recently after a campaign to find nine inspirational figures from Hull and East Yorkshire. Each of the winners will now have one of Hull’s famous cream K6 boxes named after them, as part of celebrations to mark the kiosks’ 90th anniversary.

This week the former Malet Lambert School pupil was also named as a patron of Tourette’s Syndrome Inclusion in the Community (T.I.C. Yorkshire), a charity supporting people living with Tourette’s Syndrome and Tic disorders. Tourette’s Awareness Month 2026 starts on Friday 15th May, and aims to raise awareness of the conditions that were highlighted in Robert’s film ‘I Swear’.

KCOM’s Director of Corporate Affairs Susan Adams said: “Robert is a fantastic ambassador for Hull and a true inspiration to everyone following in his footsteps, dreaming of a career in acting or the creative industries. He’s a great choice to be one of our Hometown Heroes and now a Patron of T.I.C Yorkshire. Wherever his career takes him around the world, he’ll know there’s always a phone-box shaped corner of Hull with his name on it!”

Kim Mitchell, CEO of Tourette’s Inclusion in the Community (TIC), said: “We’re proud to have Robert representing Hull and Tourette’s on the big screen – and as our patron. Seeing him on a local phone box is the icing on the cake.”
