John Cleese’s Fawlty Towers heads to Hull New Theatre

The hotel is set up – ish, beds are made – ish, and breakfast will be served – ish when the chaotic comedy Fawlty Towers heads to Hull New Theatre from 12-16 May 2026.

Nearly 50 years since it first graced television screens, this new stage play has been adapted by original star of the series and comic legend, John Cleese.

Set in a seaside hotel in Torquay, Fawlty Towers follows the rude Basil Fawlty and his bossy wife Sybil as they encounter a host of eccentric characters including the delightfully bumbling Major and the well-meaning but disorganised waiter Manuel.

John Cleese said: “When we came up with the idea of bringing Fawlty Towers to the stage, I never thought it would get the reception that it has. On December 23, it will be 50 years to the day since we recorded the pilot at BBC Television Centre and I’m delighted that the audiences we’ve had in the West End still think it’s as funny as ever. The announcement of the tour means many more people will now have the chance to laugh themselves helpless.”

Fawlty Towers sets out on its first UK and Ireland tour following a critically acclaimed and sold-out run in London’s West End. With sharp wit, chaos, and calamity at every turn, this is the comedy event of 2026.

Just “don’t mention the war!”
