Moving to Hull has made me feel younger

A couple who retired and relocated from Lancashire to be closer to their grown up children in Hull say they have made a positive move into Hull City Centre.

Mrs Ratna Sarkar and Dr Pranab Sarkar

Dr Pranab Sarkar and his wife, Ratna are new residents at The Glass House in Queen’s Gardens.

After retiring from his position as Consultant Gynaecologist for the NHS, Dr and Mrs Sarkar wanted to live closer to their son, who works as a GP in the area.

Dr Sarkar explains: “Whilst planning our retirement, my wife and I had been looking for a property in East Yorkshire for more than two years. Initially, we planned a move to Beverley, looking for a detached home similar to our house in Blackburn. However, the pandemic delayed our plans and we put the move on hold.

“It was my daughter-in-law’s suggestion for us to have a look at the new development, The Glass House in Hull, then all other properties paled in comparison and we have moved into the penthouse show apartment. It has everything going for it, fabulous location, security, parking, unique amenities and the exceptionally helpful Glass House staff take care of everything, making life so simple.

“Safety was a key factor for us. In some of the places we have lived in the past, crime has been an issue and the area didn’t always feel safe, especially in the evenings. I’m pleased to say that living in Hull City Centre has a great sense of safety. People are friendly and welcoming and this makes such difference to daily life.

“Since moving to Hull, both Ratna and I feel like we have a new lease of life. Not just because of retirement but also because we are so enjoying the place where we live. I have found studies explaining that enjoying the place where you live and how you live, can actually make you feel younger and I would say this is true for both of us.

“I don’t think there could be a better location than The Glass House, it is in such a beautiful environment. We have a wonderful view from every room in our apartment, Queen’s Gardens is so dynamic, there is always something different going on, so life doesn’t feel static. Compared to living in a sleepy suburb this really makes us feel good.

“Hull is a vibrant city with lots of culture, all on our doorstep. We are both looking forward to the festivals starting up again. We love food, art and music, so being just be a short walk from the heart of the action makes life feel full.

Originally from Calcutta in India, Dr Sarkar has spent all of this professional life in the UK where he  and Ratna brought up a family. When his son moved to Hull, the couple enjoyed visiting. He goes on to explain:

“East Yorkshire is a beautiful region, with pretty much everything we could ask for, but moving into Hull City Centre has topped it all off. Literally everything we could need is just around the corner and the local restaurants are fantastic.

“We only need one car, so that is also good for the environment and having reached a certain age, we have a bus pass and can use public transport to get around.

Jason Coleman is the Managing Director of Iguana Developments, the firm responsible for developing The Glass House. He says:

“I am so pleased to hear that Dr and Mrs Sarkar actually feel younger living here. Our new-style concept for city living is in demand and Hull City Centre is a desirable place for people at all stages in life.

“Hull’s regeneration programme is coming to fruition giving confidence to us as a residential developer that we can make a difference, encourage people to live in the city centre and bring disposable income which breathes new life into our fantastic city.”
