Following a succession of marathon challenges for charity, local fundraiser, Liam Foster, who recently ran with Kevin Sinfield, has announced he’s trading running for live music next month.

Liam, 34, who has taken part in several sporting events in aid of the MND Association following his friend’s diagnosis, admitted “it’s time to diversify my fundraising to help target new audiences.”
Liam’s friend, Craig Eskrett of East Hull, was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in 2023. Craig’s diagnosis has spurred Liam on to support those living with the disease. He said: “2024 was a really inspiring year. I’ve met some amazing people, ran with Kevin Sinfield in Hull and attended multiple fundraising events but I want to try and make an impact in different ways now.”
He added “Obviously, there is a huge link between running challenges and the MND Association but it’s not something which is accessible for everyone. I’d love to see others draw inspiration from this idea of Music Against MND.”
“As soon as I decided on a fundraising gig, I knew there was one band I particularly wanted to bring to Hull” said Liam. “Following a hugely successful year for Sam Fender in 2024, I was set on bringing the next best thing; the tribute act, ‘Sam Offender’, to an intimate setting. After brief discussion, the band were very excited to be a part of such an important event”. Joining the Sam Fender act are tributes to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Foo Fighters in which Liam plays guitar for both.
Music Against MND, the first event of its kind, which takes place on Friday 7th of February, will be hosted by Hull venue, Tribal Kingswood. Liam described the decision to use the venue as a “no brainer” following its support for Craig’s family at an event last year. “There are also strong links between Tribal and Rugby League club, Hull KR, who kindly played host to my most recent marathon in August.” He added.
Earlier this week, Rugby League and fundraising legend, Kevin Sinfield, posted a video sending his best wishes to all attendees and organisers of the event. Liam said “It’s a great honour to receive recognition from Kevin and it shows just how important it means to keep the momentum going for those in the MND community.”
Craig Eskrett, who is living with MND, said: “When fundraising events happen, it really helps me mentally and puts a skip in my step. The events also keep me motivated to beat this cruel disease.
“It’s a completely different event to what I’m used to seeing or being a part of, so I’m really looking forward to it. Plus, who doesn’t like music?! Hopefully, the event will open to new audiences too, especially those who enjoy music.”
The MND Association is the only national charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland focused on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND.
MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease which affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement and eventually leaves people unable to move, communicate or breathe. It kills a third of people within a year of diagnosis and half within two years. There is no cure.
