Hymers College is celebrating another set of outstanding GCSE results.
Year 11 students at the independent Hull school have made exceptionally strong progress and excelled in all subject areas.
The school said that, through hard work and determination, as well as the supportive ethos that is the hallmark of Hymers, students, their parents and teachers are delighted to see how this year’s cohort has risen to the challenge to reach and, in many cases, exceed their potential.
The average GCSE grade for all students in all subjects at Hymers this year is 7 (the old A grade equivalent), with particularly strong results in Maths, Sciences, History and Languages (French / Spanish / Latin).
- One in 10 of all students achieved all grades 9 or 8
- One in six of all students were awarded grades 9 or 8 in at least eight subjects.
The majority of the class of 2026 are now looking forward to staying on at Hymers’ Sixth Form to study A Levels and / or BTEC Sport.
Aishwarya Venkat, 16, from Swanland, is celebrating straight grade 9s in all of her 10 GCSEs.
She will now go on to study A Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths at Hymers’ Sixth Form.
Aishwarya, who is considering a career in medicine, joined Hymers eight years ago and has also embraced extra-curricular activities including dance, cricket and badminton.
She collected her results with her family, and said: “I’m really happy with my results and I’m grateful for the support I’ve had from my parents and teachers.
“You can go to any Hymers teacher about anything because they’re so friendly and easy to talk to. It’s easy to ask for help and they’re so supportive, tailoring lessons to suit each student.
“Hymers has given me lots of different experiences so far and equipped me with skills for the future.”
Nii Okine Thompson achieved 10 GCSEs – including grade 9s in English Literature, Maths and Biology.
The 16-year-old, from Hull, is now staying at the school’s Sixth Form to study A Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Biology and Chemistry.
During his time at Hymers he has been part of the Debating Club and the Medical Society, and has been heavily involved in sport including football and hockey.
“It’s been a really great experience at Hymers,” said Nii Okine.
“The way we’ve been able to build friendships, and how we’ve been given responsibility, has been really positive.
“I also feel like I’ve developed a lot as a person – I’ve matured and become a lot more confidence.”
Riya Kumar, 16, from Swanland, is looking forward to an exciting future after achieving impressive grades.
Her grade highlights included 9s in English Literature, Maths and Chemistry.
Riya joined the school eight years ago and will now go on to study A Level Biology, Chemistry and Maths at Hymers’ Sixth Form, with the hope of studying Medicine at university and becoming a doctor.
Riya, who also plays badminton and is in the Hymers College orchestra, said: “My teachers have helped me to learn the right study techniques and develop my interest in science.
“I’ve grown in confidence and they have supported me to grow as a person.
“I love being a Hymers student and I’m very happy all my hard work has paid off. I’m really grateful to all of my teachers.”
Ashwin Krishnan is excited to begin his A Level studies at Hymers’ Sixth Form after achieving 10 GCSEs.
The 16-year-old, from North Ferriby, joined Hymers eight years ago and has his sights set on a future sporting career in cricket while remaining focused on his studies.
Ashwin, who plays cricket for Yorkshire, the North of England and Hymers, achieved all grade 8s and 7s in his 10 subjects, including grade 8 in Business, Chemistry and Biology.
He will now go on to study Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Physics.
Ashwin said: “I’m really happy with my results. I find it hard to sit down with a book and revise but I’ve managed to balance everything, and I’ve done well.
“Even if I do well in cricket, I wanted to make sure I tried hard with my studies.
“I’m looking forward to the sixth form, so I can enjoy the subjects I’ve chosen.
“Most of my friends are staying at Hymers and it’ll be great to be with them. Hymers is a top school.”

“With the firm foundations you have laid, we have no doubt that you will flourish in the Sixth Form at Hymers, serving as brilliant leaders of the school community and superb role models for the younger pupils.
“I am sure that, like me, you would want to thank both your teachers and your parents for the wonderful support that they have given you throughout the GCSE courses.

The excellent GCSE results come one week after Hymers celebrated record-breaking A Levels, with more top grades achieved than ever before.
Almost a third of all A Level grades awarded were A*s – the highest proportion in Hymers’ history and an increase of nine percentage points on last year.
More than half of all grades were A* or A, while 77% were A*-B or equivalent, and 92% were A*-C or equivalent, underlining another year of outstanding academic achievement for the school.
