Humber Street will echo to the sound of pianos again this year as part Piano Day 2025, and everyone’s invited.

On Saturday 29th March 2025, Humber Street Piano Sessions will wheel out its pianos all along Humber Street and at Paragon Interchange for anyone to come and play a tune.
In the afternoon in the SPACE pop-up venue on Pier Street (just off Humber Street), anyone learning to play the piano is invited to come and give a performance to an appreciative audience.
Event organiser Mark Slater said: “Piano Day takes place on the 88th day of the year to match the number of keys on the instrument. We did our first event last year, which went so well that we’ve decided to do it all over again for the tenth anniversary of this international celebration of the piano and the people who play it.”
In the evening there will be four headline performances, including a brand-new piece written especially for Hull by pianist Nikki Yeoh with cellist Shirley Smart. This new work, commissioned with Hull Jazz Festival, will be given its world première.
Also on the roster are improvising pianist Laura Cole and experimental pianist Kate Ledger, who will share with us the many ways that this instrument can be explored. Completing the line-up is in-demand jazz pianist Vivek Santhosh.
