Ruth Theodore to perform at The New Adelphi

From DIY street performer to signing with Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records, Ruth Theodore has earned international critical acclaim for her songwriting and recordings alongside a growing reputation for immersive, audience-connected live performances.

The Guardian called her “an original folk voice”, FATEA hailed her as “an institution”, and her latest album I Am I Am received a string of 5-star reviews and was named among KLOF’s Top 10 Albums of 2024. Her work was also selected for preservation in the British Library Sound Archive in 2018, recognised for its “intriguing nature and originality”.

Ruth is a folk singer in essence, her music inspired by lived experience and driven by extraordinary lyricism, unique percussive guitar and emotive, unconventional piano — but her sound has never sat neatly within one genre, drawing on blues, jazz and 1920s vaudeville with a punk attitude and beat-poet energy.

Ruth has spent much of 2026 performing in the US, including joining legendary US songwriter Dar Williams on tour and wowing audiences in some of America’s most prestigious theatres and listening rooms. She was later invited to join Dar as a guest host at her songwriting retreat, and further US trips this summer and autumn have included major music festivals, headline shows and live radio performances and broadcasts.

Ruth is now working on her much-anticipated forthcoming studio record for release in 2027, and is amidst an especially expansive and creatively significant period.

Having spent much of this year performing solo, November’s tour is a rare run of full-band shows and the first time audiences will hear new material fully realised in complete band arrangements, alongside old favourites pulled apart and put back together again in new arrangements.
